Organizational and Management Processes Within Health Systems affiliation Introduction In the recent past, healthcare department has experienced diverse difficulties in dealing with dynamics of societies. The problems set in when the economic aspect of running healthcare facilities are incorporated. The financial issues and optimal utilization of resource are achieved through a lean service with highly motivated workers. Organizational culture has done much to the health care system by maintaining a status quo despite social dynamics. Health care system in Nigeria is a devolved function that is supported by the national government. Being one of rapidly growing economies despite, the country’s prowess has been noted in most sectors. The health sector is citizens oriented and ought to live to the expectation of both the government and the public. Different players have a strategic responsibility, but this paper will focus on an internal aspect of Nigerian hospitals. The alignment of activities and resources in healthcare system are classically aimed at improving the quality of service and efficiency both in service delivery and utilization of resources (Merson et al., 2009. 16-21)
Importance of learning organizational culture in health care system
Corporate culture plays a significant role in employee satisfaction and therefore service delivery. Managers play an important role in the creation of culture in an organization and learning it. This allows the management to separate cultural artifices with a positive impact on service delivery from non-progressive norms. There are many contending variables in the organizations culture. The changing needs and expectation of stakeholders like the contradicting needs of the patients, the providers and regulators create inconsistencies and send mixed signals. Moreover, it handles the maintenance of most inefficient practices and is, therefore, important that the discussion about organizational culture be started (Swayne, 2014. 17).
Learning an organizational culture in health will allow managers to identify specific areas and norms that affect service delivery and its efficient utilization of resources. Culture to some degree is shaped by incentives and understanding it in health, allows the managers and regulators to identify specific areas they can encourage change or improvement. Culture determines how an organization does things. It is, therefore, imperative that progressive stagnant culture are separated and dealt with accordingly through identification (Watkins, 2013, 8-14)
Impacts of organizational culture on delivery of service
We should be moving towards learning organizational culture in health care systems. Culture is a factor that determines the quality of service and effectiveness in utilizing resources. Social dynamics has modified the expectations of the public and regulator, and we should, therefore, learn the culture in our respective hospitals to allow us forge a lean environment for services delivery. It is imperative, therefore, those health facilities should understand their inbred culture and determine the effects of such culture on the provision of services. Culture of highly specialized and patient-oriented should be encouraged while those that promote reluctance are discouraged.
There is a general perception across Nigeria that public hospital medical practitioners are less motivated. Their service, despite being patient-oriented, is characterized by little attention and reluctance. This is not just a perception if you visit a private hospital and compare it with the public hospital. Private hospitals, on the other hand, focus on returns and the process of trying to win and maintain patience, service delivery are standardized.
An organizational system is significantly affected by organizational structures and cultures. It is, therefore, imperative that providers and regulators understand their corporate culture and their impacts on service delivery. Hospitals should adopt habits that are patient-centered. These way hospitals will be able to deliver satisfactory services to the patients. Time is changing fast and with it the numbers of those seeking medical attentions as well as the complexity of the medical issues. It is, therefore, imperative that healthcare stakeholders learn their organizational culture and ascertain if it is in conformity with the current demands from the patients and regulators.
