The your subjects. there are some exceptions,

The differences between high school and HBOUndoubtedly thatthere are quite a few differences between secondary and tertiary education but  there are plenty of college studies, whichmakes summing up differences between these educations very difficult. One studyprogram has a lot of work experience and with the other study program you havemany lectures. There are also many differences in the area of examinations, curriculum, teachers, teaching periods, so on. Yet fortunately there are also alot of things that are generally the same at the HBO.

These general similarities makes thecomparison between high school and HBO less complicated than it looks like.                 Firstof all, you will have to arrange and know a lot of things yourself even morethan in high school. Your independence will play a major role during your timestudying HBO. The things that are important can usually be found in the studyguide, or on the portal. In high school these things were extremely different, as the teacher will explain things in practical matters and will send you notesof the classes you have followed. Every time when there are examinationsscheduled you will hear this and you will get special trainings to prepareyourself for the examinations. In college they will not push you to prepareyourself for the examinations, you have to rely on yourself and have to look foryourself when certain examinations are and plan how and when you will learn forit.

Secondlyin the secondary education they work with grades. You can pass the year if youhave an average of 5, 5 or above on all your subjects. There are some exceptions, but these rules are too complicated to explain. In the tertiary education theywork with study points, if you have completed an examination or a report with apass, you will be awarded one or more credits. It depends on the size of theassignment how many credits you get. At the end of the first year you must haveearned 50 credits to pass, and with 60 credits you will receive your ‘ Propedeuse’. Receiving your Propedeuse is very important because you have to get it beforethe second year ends to continue your education or to transfer to the university. Halfway through the year, you will get a study advice and this can be positiveor negative.

If the school does not think you are suitable for the program orwill not make it till the end of the year, you can get a negative study adviceand most people will quit the study after receiving this.                 Finallya major difference between high school and HBO is that you do not have toobliged to be present every lecture or class when you are in college. It isyour own responsibility whether you are present in the lecture, because in theend it is important that you control the material well.

In high school therewere consequences if you were not in class. For example you had to stay for acouple hours after class or the teacher would call your parents. Apart fromthat, in high school every week for a semester long were the same, so you hadthe same schedule for months. This is not the case if you study HBO. You willhave a different schedule every week, but a big benefit from this is that youwill have a lot of freedom. Often you will not have many lectures or classes, surelyless than in secondary school.

This gives you the opportunity to do whateveryou want in your spare time, most wisely students will choose to spend theirspare time to study, others wants to enjoy their time off and will party lateinto the night and sleep the day after. As a student you are very flexible interms of time, and can decide for yourself when you are going to work onreports.                 Itis safe to say that the differences between high school and HBO are very bigand it really takes time before you get used to it. That does not mean it isless fun than high school it is just different.

Most of the people who are now studyingHBO are glad they are done with their high school career. Graduating from high schoolwill close a chapter in your life and gives you the opportunity to open a newchapter.  It will transition you fromdependent child to independent young adult who has to make his own decisions inlife.
